The National Board of Catholic Women actively seeks to promote the presence, participation and responsibilities of Catholic women in the Church and society in order to enable them to fulfil their evangelical mission and to work for the Common Good.

It is a forum in which Catholic Women in England and Wales (members of Catholic organisations and other women representatives of diocesan structures) exchange experience, express their hopes and concerns and make recommendations on the life and mission of the Church. It forwards to Government and others, submissions dealing with matters of public interest and concern.

‘Mary is depicted as the strong Mother of mankind. The child sleeping perfectly peacefully on her arm, represents humanity undisturbed by the chaos of the world, shown in the blazing explosion of the  background’.

This picture of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was painted by Pietro Annigoni in 1961 for the church of that name in the pastoral care of the Claretian Missionaries (Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary) in Hayes, Middlesex,
and reproduced here with their kind permission.

A Reflection on the painting, by Verena Wright, Diocesan Link Portsmouth  is on Diocesan Links  (Portsmouth).
